Fair Trade Friday looks a little different this time, but this tool for ethical shopping is too useful for me not to share! Recently a new mobile app called Good On You came out which has fulfilled a huge need in the global effort to make ethical fashion more accessible to everyone.
Good On You does something that I haven't seen any other app do: they make it fast and easy to check out a brand quickly in the store before buying.
The app provides a "grade" for each brand they've reviewed. You can search for a brand you're considering purchasing and find out what their practices look like in each of three categories: Labor, Environment, and Animal. Breaking the grade out into these segments means you can prioritize the ethical concepts that are most important to you as well as get an overall picture of the brand.
They also have a News feed on their landing page, which acts essentially as a blog and not only houses interesting articles but often includes discount codes with certain brands.
Out of curiosity, I looked up some of the brands I used to buy and was pleasantly surprised by the improvements they've made over the years - Adidas, for example, is making huge strides in their ethical practices, as well as Birkenstock, Dockers, Patagonia, and Reebok.
This app is amazing for anyone interested in switching to ethical clothing purchases, from beginners to long-term shoppers. I can't recommend this enough, and I hope you get as much use and joy from this app as I have!
